Press Release - Love Your Mountain Day
Local Eden Epsom residents and visitors alike should mark their calendars now for the fourth annual Love Your Mountain Day Sunday December 6th on Maungawhau Mt Eden. This free community event is being organized by 'Friends of Maungawhau' a local volunteer group committed to the restoration and preservation of Maungawhau.
The mountain will be closed to vehicles from 9.30am until 4pm, allowing pedestrians of all ages free reign to explore! There will also be guided walks at 10am and 1pm.
"Love Your Mountain Day is about making the mountain accessible to everyone whilst celebrating our cultural and archeological heritage. We're thrilled to once again have the support of Government House, the grounds of which will be open to the public on this special day, and also the beautiful neighboring Eden Gardens." says Karen Jane, event organiser.
Langtons, the old Kiosk, will come out of retirement for the day to play host to some fascinating displays highlighting the archaeology of the mountain along with future plans for the volcanic cones.
There will also be information about the invaluable contribution being made by the ever increasing numbers of volunteers who make up 'Friends of Maungawhau'. Many of the tireless volunteers work up to 20 hours each week, planting and maintaining the native flora.
If you would like more information or to volunteer for Love Your Mountain Day, no experience is necessary just email or phone Karen Jane on (09) 815 3449.
