Coffee Grounds used on Maunga as mulch

By: Ian Fish

A group of women called "The Village People" have been working towards a sustainable future and zero waste in Mt Eden village for the past 5 years.

Its vision is for Mt Eden village to become the first plastic bag free and sustainable suburb in Auckland.

The Village People come up with solutions to help mainly shop owners to do things in a different and more sustainable way and to recycle.

One of the Inititives has been to use the coffee grounds produced by local cafes as a mulch. The Friends of Maungawhau have been collecting coffee grounds from Frasers for use in the Batger Quarry area of the Maunga for the past year.
